BC Ministry of Education: The BC Kids Writing Contest
Organization
BC Ministry of Education & BC Library Association
Description
The BC Kids Writing Contest was created as part of the BC Libraries 100 year Anniversary celebrations. Open to kids between the age of 8 and 12 years old living in BC, they were asked to write a story, a poem, a play or some other piece of writing - in less than 300 words. The jury would select 25 winning entries to be printed into a commemorative book.
Brief
Under serious time constraints, JenTekk needed to build a website that was youthful, colorful and energetic. Content included contest description, contest rules, the jury, and several ways to enter the contest - all which needed to be presented in such a way that it would be easy for kids to understand.
The Solution
Project Components
- XHTLM / CSS
- template creation
- selection of graphics
- content development
- content formatting
- crossbrowser compatibility
The Results
With the contest being held in the summer JenTekk selected a very colorful background graphic as the inspiration for the site's colors - bright sky blue, sunshine yellow, and citrus orange. We chose youthful and fun images for the header and site content to bring much needed energy to what was going to be a simple website. In addition, we incorporated creative content formatting to bring additional interest. While the site was not big in size, it certainly was massive in energy.
